12 Rules of Grammar
There are 12 important rules of grammar.
1. Noun
For nouns, "a/an" is used for singular nouns.
If it is a plural, "s" is added at the end of the world
E.g:
A coin (singular)
Coins (plural)
2. Verb
For verbs, "s" and "have" is used for plural.
For singular, the word "has" is added however, "s" is not added.
E.g:
The girl has an umbrella (singular)
The girls have umbrellas (plural)
3. Process
B5 + P2
- B5 = usage of words such as "am", "is", "are", "was" and "were"
- P2 = is present continuous tense (+ ing)
E.g:
The woman was (B5) wearing (P2) a white dress.
4. Passive
B5 + P4
- B5 = usage of words such as "am", "is", "are", "was" and "were"
- P4 = is past tense
E.g:
Active sentence : Anna is baking a cake.
Passive sentence: The cake was(B5) baked(P4) by Anna.
5. Perfect Passive
3H + P4
- 3H = has/have/had
- P4 = is past tense
E.g
The secretary has(3H) sent(P4) an email.
6. Perfect Passive
3H + Been + B4
- 3H = has/have/had
- P4 = is past tense
E.g:
The plates have(3H) been washed(P4) by Suzy.
7. Model words
Model + original words
Model words = can/could/should/shall/would/will/may/might
E.g:
She can (Model word) drive (Original word) Sally home.
8. Model words usage
Model + be + P4
Model words = can/could/should/shall/would/will/may/might
P4 = is past tense
E.g:
Her ticket can (Model word) be cancelled(P4) if she could not attend the concert.
9. Usage of "To"
"To" + original words
E.g:
Kate is going to buy that bag.
10. Usage "To" and "Be"
"To" + be + P4
P4 = is past tense
E.g:
They are going to be married to each other.
11. "By" and present continuous tenses.
"By" + P2
P2 = is present continuous tense (+ ing)
E.g:
Sasha goes to school by cycling (P2).
12. Usage of "For" and present continuous tenses.
"For" + P2
P2 = is present continuous tense (+ ing)
E.g:
Lisa thanked Lily for baking (P2) her a strawberry cake.
